Okay I'm unsure if this topic has ever come up before, and even less sure if this is the right place to post the topic but nonetheless here's the question.

We all know about the Drow, or Ilythiiri(meaning, "Elves of the South") as they used to be called, if the ingame books of BG2 are to be believed. There has also constant yet vauge use of words in their native tounge, often only out of spite or otherwise bad behaviour as many contain double meanings, mostly cruel or foul language by normal standards.

So if anyone reading this topic would like to contribute, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll start with one that I think translates: "Nau"="No"

Or there's a direct translator known as House Maerdyn.

And a dictionary and translator are both housed at the Chosen of Eilistraee

If you can find the old AD&D Drow of the Underdark, it can be very helpful also.

Lit alurl velve zhah lil velkyn uss.

Are you sure you do not mean "Lil alurl velve zhah lil velkyn uss." ? Perhaps "L' alurl velve zhah lil velkyn uss."

I hope no one minds if I move this to Delusions of the Mind. That's where general Forgotten Realms lore goes. This is kind of devoted to BG1 and BG2, and this goes beyond that.

Mine is quite accurate. It is a direct quote from that AD&D book that I mentioned.

Odd. The translator translates "the" differently.

"Lit alurl velve zhah lil velkyn uss".

"Lit best blade is the hidden one?" Interesting phrase there Solaufein. Still there are some that would go with Kellen's phrase instead.

"L' alurl velve zhah lil velkyn uss."

"The best blade is the hidden one." Makes me wonder why there's such a difference in letters for much the same phrase. (though not quite ;) )

How interesting .. the Drow language. I have Favorited all three reference sites. I will look them over. I myself know a bit of Kudzul, Dwarven .. but have never had anyone to speak it with before. So, if I learn Drow I see I can at least speak it with Kellen. Coo.

Ah, perhaps we shall, Ibis. Though if I were to be fully honest I prefer Elven to Drow. Looking into Dwarven, but can't seem to find a proper (usable) Faerunian dictionary.
