Thank you all for participating in the monthly SHS Fanfiction Challenges. Here are the entries for each challenge archived for your easy perusal.

Challenge #1: Me and My Crazy Friends
"We all have a different take on our brief stay with the seeing Aphril and Naljier, the changing Dili, the former warden Wanev, the dog-fearing Dradeel, and of course the Gnome who will rule the world, Tiax. But how did they end up there, how did they receive their curses, and if they did live, would they ever find a cure or a way to live on?"

Challenge #2: Fall of your Favorite Antagonist

"Before the Beginning (A Villain's Story)

Every sage has a beginning. But sometimes the most important event happens long before our story begins, with our villains. Long before our hero seeks to save the world, our archnemesis begins a journey of his own, though much darker. So tell us of those stories, as our villains begin on the paths that would make them those we fight."

Challenge #3: What If

"What if the sky turns to fire and your nose falls off? While perhaps not as drastic, the question of "what if" still flows through every game we play, and every movie we watch. What if someone else was the prophesied Bhaalspawn or savior of the world? What if the villain won? What if your character could no longer go on? So this month tell us your ?what if?s?, and what if, because of you we get just one more moment of enjoyment out of life?"

Challenge #4: Favorites

"Everyone has favorites. Ice cream, shirt, game, or NPC we each have something we like beyond all others. And since this is the Fanfic Challenge you can guess what we're writing about this time. Favorite NPC. So show us your favorite character, from whatever game it is. Whether you show them growing old, finding love, passing on, meeting great accomplishments or just living another day, show us why you love them so. Who knows, we might just like them too by the time you are done."

Challenge #5: It Takes Two

"Batman and Robin. Rocky and Bullwinkle. Benny and June. Khalid and Jaheira. Illidan and Furion. Great things come in pairs, and we're giving you a whole month to talk about them. Whether it's the bonds of love that hold Khalid and Jaheira together, a common cause that keep Batman and Robin fighting, or even the bond of hate that binds the brothers Stormrage. Show us your favorite pairs and what binds them together so strongly."

Challenge #6: Pests

There's three inevitable things in life. Birth, death, and pests. Someone will get on your nerves, and in fanfic they'll get on the nerves of your characters. Whether through plain stupidity, insane cheerfulness, munchkinism/Mary Stuism, or some other inexplicable reason, this is the topic to vent all of your pent up anger for those stupid, irksome, glum, weak, 4th wall-breaking, incessantly cheerful, chatterboxy Mary Sueish...

Challenge #7: Extend

What do your characters do when they are caught in a tiring situation where they barely have the strength to move on. What will spur them on, or will they just give up completely? This challenge asks for you to extend the following situation in any manner you deem fit. The following paragraph must be in your entry.

"A tall, slender girl walked past, wrinkling her nose in disgust but not sparing us a look. The city looked crowded and we were tired - the long march here had worn us out, even the hardiest among us had trouble standing straight. We looked like beaten adventurers, our tattered and bloody attire drew cautious glances from the town folks - they steered clear of us as we walked down the alley. We had business, shady, dangerous affairs, perhaps, it was necessary for our survival, even if we were in an advantageous state..."

Challenge #8: Happy Holidays

December holds some of the biggest holidays of the year, certainly one of the most publicized. In tribute to a month of celebrations and holidays we want to see your characters having their own celebrations. Show us how your characters prepare for their parties. Do they undergo the same stress as they prepare for company? Do they make small changes or go all out? Or show us how they celebrate when the day finally arrives. What holidays do they celebrate? Is there a highly ritualistic ceremony or a joyous revelry? Just the family, or does the whole town join them? Show us all the best and worst of the days we love and hate.

Challenge #9: Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Winter. Most either love it or hate. Some love to hate it. But regardless it has a lot of meanings. For many it brings snow for their reindeer games, for others it simply brings shoveling and sub-zero temperatures. Bah Humbug! But what about your characters? What do they feel about the frozen wastelands, or the earth blanketed in white? That's what we wish to know for this month, so get out this pencils, bank up your fire, bundle yourselves in your warmest blankets, and get writing.

Challenge #10: Love is...

Whether romance in the candlelight, or your sister again driving you up the wall, love is shown in many different ways. There are even many types of love. There is romance, chocolaty goodness, ideas, familial bonds, the caring one develops with their friends, and even the kind of love a priest shows to his god(s). So for this month you may illustrate love in any of its many forms, in any way it may be shown.

Challenge #11: Magic

Magic is an intriguing theme, yet few authors stop to really explore it. To describe how it feels to cast a spell, what it's like to hold in your hand the essence of something beyond mortal ken. And do they serve it, or is it merely a tool to master? From eldritch invocations, to arcane spells to divine energies, bring us your spellcasters, and show us how magic feels.

Challenge #12: Impish Antics

Every adventuring party, every game seems to have one character who is up to no good. Not the villain, on the contrary, they are quite often a good guy. Commonly they're rogues, though magic can aid in their tasks. They are the trouble-makers. Whether Jan outwitting Anomen with yet another banter, Jarno's imp causing some other catastrophe, a spare bottle of itching powder, or whatever your mind can devise. Dig out your impish side, and delight or alarm us with your pranksters, of light humor or darker persuasions.
