This is my first post so forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. I'm not a modder but I've been playing BG2 using mods off and on for the last five years. I'd finally given up on the game because of issues I was having using the various mods together. I didn't have the time to play all of them individually and was frustrated by bugs when I tried playing what amounted to a mega-mod. Of course once I found this web-site and the mega mod forum I had to give it another try!

I really loved the idea of BGT and wanted to try that mod out for sure. Originally I jumped right into the mega-mod but after hours of loading close to 100 mods I found that either my laptop ran much to slowly, or there were too many bugs to enjoy the game. Being somewhat of a power gamer (and to try out all of the cool new HLA's from refinements!) I like to play in multi-player mode, roll up my own six characters and then put the save game in the single player game save folder (basically to save time). I left out all of the NPC mods, the big mods and DSoTSC for my last attempt and it seemed to be working well until I tried to enter Beregost. I read about the Beregost CTD issue but had never experienced it in my previous games. I tried several times with different parties and it crashed every time I used a saved multi-player game (no matter if it was saved as a single player or MP). Thinking that might be the issue I tried with just a single character and voila no CTD. Unfortunately, w/o the NPC enhancing mods, I find the vanilla BG NPC's to be quite boring so I decided to solo. My first attempt at a solo character also got the Beregost CTD but my second try worked and I've been playing the game w/o errors so far.

After all that background my only question is whether or not it's possible to play BGT in multi-player mode the way I described above? The only issue I can think of from the mods I utilized is the 'Better Multi-Player kickouts' option from one of the tweak mods (can't remember which right now). I believe that's the only thing that discriminates between single player and multi-player modes. If nobody ese has had this issue I'll keep trying to get a multi-player game that doesn't crash, especially since I did get the error once with a single character. I just don't have the time to waste rolling up six characters umpteen times if it's going to be futile...

Thanks for any answers you can give me (even one I don't want to hear),

Balrog99

P.S. I used the Beregost crash fixer on the saved games to no avail.

What did it say when you loaded the save game in question into the Java program Beregost Crash Fixer ? It should work for all types of saves, even auto-saves. If you are playing with others via multiplayer, I am not sure if that means they have to fix the same game with the same tool.

The fixer ran OK, no error messages or anything. The problem didn't go away however. I don't play multi-player online. I just wanted to play with 6 characters of my own choosing. The crash occured every time I tried to enter Beregost with a multi-player party regardless of whether I was actually playing in multi-player mode or in single player mode (with the multi-player save moved to the single player directory). If you want to see my weidu log I can post it later tonight.

P.S. It just occured to me that I also have Jastey's Mini Quests installed and that mod adds content to Beregost. I only mentioned it because I had a CTD during one of those quests while inside Beregost. It was the quest with the husband & wife not speaking to each other because of a missing necklace. The crash occured during the 2nd dialogue with the little boy outside the house. Probably unrelated but worth mentioning. The slime quest was the only other from that mod I had gotten to and that one worked fine.

Can you enable the error log (add Logging On=1 in the [Program Options] section of baldur.ini), reproduce the crash and then post the contents of baldur.err here?

It should be no problem reproducing the error as it's happened every time I've tried a MP game. I probably won't get back in action until Saturday night but I'll post it then. If by some chance I can't reproduce it I'll let you know that too. Thanks for the quick responses!

BTW: CLUA'ing to Beregost didn't work neither did uninstalling and reinstalling the Worldmap. Those were the first things I tried...

Can you zip up your saved game and attach it here? When you play 'multiplayer', are you actually playing with a friend, or just making a party of multiple characters, all played by yourself?

I just wanted to play with 6 characters of my own choosing.

I have played BGT 1.04 exactly in the same way (creating my own 6 characters and then moving the MP Save to the single player directory) and I seem to remember I have had only one case of Beregost crash which was easily fixed by the Fixer.

All characters are played by myself. I uploaded the auto save from the mp save directory.

I can't open the file but I'll attach it here. Well maybe I won't, it says I can't upload this kind of file. Is there some program I need to open the err file with?

Also here's the WEIDU log:

What do you mean, you can't open it locally?
Simply change the extension to something like .log or .txt for uploading.

That means it's not a corrupted saved game. I guess it's not the error that the Beregost Crash Fixer deals with then. That explains why it didn't work for me.

Anybody have any ideas from my WeiDu log what might have happened? If not I guess I'll just have to reinstall yet again. Since this doesn't appear to be a BGT problem should this topic be moved to the Mega Mod forum? I'm not sure how to do it (or even if I'm able to).

Well I found a work-around. I started a single player game then went to Beregost w/o a CTD and saved the game. I then moved the saved game folder to the MPSave directory, rolled up five new characters and proceded from there w/o issue. The only strange thing was the five characters I rolled up had extra hit points (about 10-12 extra HP's). Weird but tolerable. I guess they just won't die as quickly! Since my PC is a cleric/mage, I'll use find familiar to boost his HP's up with the others...

Anyways, problem solved so thanks for the help all!

Just a minor update in case anybody else encounters this problem. I figured out how to get rid of the extra HP's my characters were getting. It seems if you roll up a new 1st level character during the Multi-Player load saved game screen, that character will get the extra HP's. However, if you roll up the characters in a separate game, save that game and then use the import function, they will have their normal amount of HP's. Kind of strange...

Well, I managed to take my party through the BGI portion with only minor troubles. I had the Sarevok end-game problem but didn't suffer the transition bug. The only other BGT bug was that I couldn't talk to the proprietor of the Helm & Cloak w/o a CTD. Very odd but not a game-breaker (I'm not sure if there was supposed to be a quest involving him or not). Kudos to all involved in the making of BGT for a very enjoyable mod!

Fear i just stumbled across this aswell, but only after i have mangled the bandit-camp. Cant load autosave nor quicksave, it goes to 10% when game hardcrashes. So i ran the beregost fix and it reported an error of to many spellslots (12) and it said it fixed it, but i cannot load them anyway. Thing is my main char wears the ring of wisadry so his spellslots are accurate (doubled).

What to do?

Ity would be a real headache to restart the game entirely again, its about 2 weeks hard work getting here. help! :-/

Workaround to my problem: Never enter Beregost again, after banditcamp there is no need for it luckily. No clue why savegames freaked out upon entering beregost after banditcamp though..

It's most probably the localmap index, that comes with the chapter change. As it's the ar3300b, as seen in here.
